How the Teachings of H.H. Dorje Chang Buddha III Transformed My Life and Marriage

During my childhood, I often heard my elder-generation relatives say, “We had better not marry our daughters out. Otherwise, they may have a bad fate.”

I was always puzzled by this belief. But as I grew older, I observed the lives of married couples in my family. Their days were consumed by housework and childcare. After marriage, many couples lacked common interests and emotional connection. Their relationships gradually became like two parallel lines—close, yet never truly intersecting. Busy with the necessities of daily life, they seemed to lose sight of spiritual and personal growth. Gradually, I came to understand why the elders warned about the risks of a “bad fate” in marriage. As I entered society, I kept their advice in mind and feared leading a life of disconnection and routine.

I met my future husband during a social event. We didn’t stay in touch immediately, but reconnected some time later when I was going through a difficult period in life. After working in society for two to three years, I found myself physically and emotionally drained. Due to neglecting my well-being, I began experiencing early warning signs of health issues. Seeing my classmates begin their family lives, I felt admiration—but also hesitation. The words of my elders about marriage and fate continued to echo in my mind, and so I pulled back once again.

One day, an elder relative told me something that shifted my perspective: “Everything is due to causality. Even illness is caused by karmic causes.” Those words shook me deeply. For the first time, I felt I might understand the root of my suffering. I began seeking answers to life’s difficulties through spiritual practice.

I visited the gate of a well-known Buddhist temple and stood there for about five minutes. During that brief moment, memories of my childhood surfaced—times when my elders took me to chant sutras, telling me that joining in would bring blessings. Back then, I didn’t understand the meaning behind those actions. I didn’t believe that simply following the crowd could resolve my karmic problems, so I turned and left.

Six months later, I met my companion again. That day, he invited me to a Buddha hall to respectfully listen to a recorded Dharma discourse expounded by H.H. Dorje Chang Buddha III. The topic was Do You Clearly Believe in the Law of Cause and Effect?”

What I heard was like a thunderclap awakening my heart. I finally understood that everything I experience in life today is the result of causes I planted in the past. Though my understanding wasn’t yet complete, I no longer felt fear or confusion.

Later, I respectfully read What Is Cultivation?”, also expounded by H.H. Dorje Chang Buddha III. The following passages deeply inspired me:

Cultivation is cultivating the increase of good karma and cultivating the avoidance of bad karma. It is increasing good karmic conditions, planting good causes, and reaping good effects. It is avoiding the increase of bad karmic conditions, not planting bad causes, and avoiding the reaping of bad effects.

The Law of Cause and Effect does not err. It cannot be eliminated. To say that it can is to take a nihilistic point of view. Hence, we can only build a wall of good karma, which is like building a retaining wall. This wall of good karma has the effect of blocking us from our evil karma. Thus, only through learning from the Buddha, cultivating the conduct of the Buddha, and ultimately becoming a Buddha can we thoroughly liberate ourselves from the karma (cause and effect) that binds us to the cycles of reincarnations.

These profound teachings gave me new direction and strength.

In 2014, we decided to get married and traveled to the United States for our honeymoon to attend Buddhist events related to the true Dharma of Tathagatas. Our marriage took place under these auspicious karmic conditions.

Because we continuously and respectfully listen together to the recorded Dharma discourses of H.H. Dorje Chang Buddha III, we share aligned values, mutual understanding, and harmony in our life. Our marriage is filled with compassion and shared growth. This reality completely disproved the fearful belief from my childhood that marriage might bring a bad fate.

I am deeply grateful for the compassionate blessings of H.H. Dorje Chang Buddha III. They enabled me to find not only a loving life partner, but also a true path of liberation through the authentic Buddhist teachings and cultivation.

On the other hand, it was my husband who helped establish my karmic connection with the true Dharma of Tathagatas.

I sincerely express my gratitude to H.H. Dorje Chang Buddha III!
