A Mother in Her Nineties Overcomes the Pain of Cancer Through the Blessings of Namo Dorje Chang Buddha III
My name is Li Xueping, and my mother, Yang Yanshu, is a ninety-year-old elderly woman. She is kind, simple, thrifty, and devoted to her family, always showing filial piety to her elders and love to the younger generation.
My mother has been a Buddhist for many years, and our home has always had an altar dedicated to Namo Guanshiyin Bodhisattva. Although she is illiterate, she sincerely recites the Heart Sutra and has memorized it completely.

In October 2003, my sister and I accompanied my mother in listening to the Dharma discourses of Namo Dorje Chang Buddha III for fourteen consecutive days. My mother experienced great blessings both physically and mentally, filled with Dharma joy. She further realized the truth and authenticity of Buddhism and developed profound admiration for the supreme Namo Dorje Chang Buddha III. From that moment on, she diligently practiced, listened to Dharma discourses, and her health remained excellent, allowing her to take care of all aspects of her daily life. Seeing my mother healthy and happy, I deeply understood that it was all due to the blessings from Namo Dorje Chang Buddha III and the power of the true Dharma.
In June 2017, due to karmic retribution, my mother was diagnosed with cervical cancer at a reputable city hospital. The shocking news struck us like a thunderbolt. It was hard for us, her children, to accept the reality that she was diagnosed with cancer at such an advanced age. To spare her from the pain of surgery, we decided on conservative treatment with traditional Chinese medicine.
All four of us siblings, along with our younger family members, devoted ourselves to Buddhist practices for our mother—reciting The Supreme and Unsurpassable Mahamudra of Liberation, lighting lamps in offering to the Buddhas, and performing life-releasing ceremonies. My mother also diligently chanted Buddha’s names, listened to Dharma discourses, and repented for her past karma. She often said, “I regret killing so many chickens in the past just to satisfy my appetite. I have committed the great sin of taking lives.”
As her children, we understood the law of cause and effect—that karma never fails. Killing is one of the gravest sins. Despite all our efforts in performing Buddhist practices for her, we knew we could not completely resolve the root cause of her illness. We could only watch helplessly as she suffered from her condition.
To help my mother formally take refuge in the Buddha and seek the path to liberation, I resolutely applied for a U.S. visa. In September 2017, I traveled to the United States to visit the esteemed Namo Dorje Chang Buddha III, whom I had long admired, and reported my mother’s illness. The compassionate Buddha said, “I will perform a Dharma practice to bless her.”
The Buddha is so kind and treats all beings equally, regardless of wealth or status. That precious moment remains unforgettable for me. Meanwhile, the monastic masters at the temple, upon learning of my mother’s situation, provided her with Black Treasure Pills. My mother received the supreme blessings of Namo Dorje Chang Buddha III and was deeply grateful. Her cancer pain vanished, her complexion became rosy, and she felt at peace in body and mind. The Buddha is truly of the utmost honor and benevolence, and the power of the Dharma is undeniably real.
On June 3, 2018, while I was at my daughter’s home in Belgium, I suddenly received a call from my younger brother, urging me to return home immediately because my mother was critically ill. Fearing that I might not see my mother one last time, my daughter immediately booked my return flight.
Throughout the journey, I silently prayed for the blessings from Namo Dorje Chang Buddha III, hoping that my mother would hold on until I could see her again. When I arrived home on June 5, I found that she had miraculously survived. My sister told me that just before she lost consciousness, my mother cried out, “Namo Guanshiyin Bodhisattva, save me!” and then fainted. Fortunately, the ambulance arrived in time and rushed her to the hospital, where she was successfully resuscitated after seven days of treatment.
Although my mother’s life was saved, she still required constant care from us siblings. I had already booked a flight to the United States for June 21 to participate in the Dharma Assembly Respectfully Honoring the Holy Birthday of Namo Dorje Chang Buddha III. At such a critical moment, seeing my ailing mother and my siblings taking turns caring for her, I found it difficult to bring up my plans. My husband also objected, accusing me of being unfilial.
Yet, my greatest wish in life was to attend the Buddha’s birthday celebration at least once. In my heart, I silently prayed for the blessings from Namo Dorje Chang Buddha III so that my mother would remain safe while I was away. In the end, on June 21, I was able to travel to the U.S. as planned and participated in the Great Life-Releasing Dharma Assembly at the H.H. Dorje Chang Buddha III Cultural and Art Museum.
On June 24, I also attended the rare and precious Holy Heavenly Lake Dharma Assembly. When the American flag fluttered over the lake, thousands of Buddhist disciples from around the world spontaneously gathered, kneeling in two lines, holding khatas, and respectfully welcoming the great Namo Dorje Chang Buddha III. Each of us was filled with indescribable joy and happiness, chanting aloud, “Namo Dorje Chang Buddha III,” as the holy name of the Buddha resounded through the sky.
On the evening of June 25, despite being tirelessly engaged in benefiting sentient beings, the Buddha still personally received Buddhist disciples from around the world. When I had the honor of meeting Namo Dorje Chang Buddha III in the Buddha Hall, I eagerly reported my mother’s illness to Him. The Buddha kindly asked about her condition and age, to which I truthfully responded. Laughing, the Buddha said, “Haha, good!” Overcome with emotion, I tearfully prayed for His blessings upon my mother.
When I returned home from the United States, I found my mother in excellent condition. My heart was filled with infinite gratitude. Thanks to Namo Dorje Chang Buddha III’s great blessings, my mother, despite her cancer diagnosis, had never complained of pain over the past two years. She continued her daily Buddhist recitations as if she were completely healthy. She had only been hospitalized twice. During the Spring Festival, when relatives visited her, they all marveled at how well she looked, saying she did not seem like someone suffering from a serious illness.
My mother is deeply grateful to the compassionate blessings from Namo Dorje Chang Buddha III, the Buddhas and Bodhisattvas of the ten directions, and the authentic Dharma of the Tathagata.
Through my mother’s illness, I have come to understand the impermanence of life, the inescapability of karma, and the suffering of birth, aging, sickness, and death. Every person inevitably faces their karmic consequences, without exception. Only by genuinely following the true Dharma of Namo Dorje Chang Buddha III, sincerely practicing, and aligning our body, speech, and mind with the Buddha’s teachings can we attain liberation and enlightenment.
Gratitude to the great Namo Dorje Chang Buddha III!
Humbly,
Disciple Li Xueping
